Outdoor Flood Lights – An Ideal Way To Enhance The Safety Around Your Home

Operation

There are several choices of operation available with outdoor flood lights. One of the most common methods of operation is motion sensor activation. When motion is detected by the sensor, the lights turn on for a preset length of time. Typically the motion sensor is able to be aimed to cover specific areas, while at the same time eliminating activation from normal street traffic.

Other common modes of operation are timer activated, dusk-to-dawn activated, and of course those that can be wired through the common household switch. There are also floodlights available that are switchable from motion to dusk-to-dawn mode. From an environmental standpoint though, the ideal method of activation is the motion sensor as it won't be on all night.

Styles

Outdoor Flood Lights can be purchased in a wide variety of styles that should fit anyone's needs. There are types that are electrically powered or those that are solar powered.

Bulb types available include incandescent, quartz halogen, high-intensity discharge (high pressure sodium and metal halide), CFL, and LED. CFL and high-intensity discharge types are not appropriate for use with motion sensors though.

Depending upon your needs and the layout of your property, you may choose landscape or path lighting, porch lights, garage mounted, or wall mounted around the perimeter of your home. It is best to evaluate your home and property for areas that could potentially present safety or security issues. With this assessment done, it is a simple matter to come up with a list of what should be purchased.
